About our machines
We have 2 drill presses for our Wood Shop and Metal Shop. One is just for wood, the other just for metal, to help keep the oily metal chips and wood chips separated.
Wood Shop Drill Press:
- Model: Powermatic PM2800B
- Model: Delta 17-900 (old)

Safety
All Drill Presses
- Adjusting Table Height
- Loosen Lock Lever on left side
- Crank handle on right side to desired height
- Tighten Lock Lever
- Mounting Drill Bit in chuck
- Tighten Bit with chuck key
- Turn on drill to make sure it is centered
- Determining Drill Speed
- Refer to laminated chart to find proper speed based on
- Type of drill bit
- Diameter of drill bit
- Type of material being drilled
- Refer to laminated chart to find proper speed based on
- Secure your workpiece as appropriate
Powermatic PM2800B
Adjusting Drill Speed
- Turn on drill
- Use crank on left of drill to set speed
- Speed is displayed on digital display
- DO NOT ADJUST DRILL SPEED UNLESS DRILL IS RUNNING
Delta Drill Presses
Adjusting Drill Speed
- Unplug the machine
- Open the top cover
- Loosen motor adjustment screws on left and right side of machine
- Rotate motor adjustment lever towards you, which slides the motor and creates slack in the belts
- Reposition belts according to the chart on the inner lid to get your desired RPM
- Make sure each belt is on the correct position on both pulleys. The belt should not be diagonal, but should be straight across.
- Rotate motor adjustment lever away from you, tightening the belt. It will stop rotating at one point,
