*Be careful of loose fitting clothing and long hair.
*The stainless steel jacket and some of the other fixtures surrounding the kiln will get hot enough to burn your skin when the kiln is heated.
*Take off metal accessories such as rings and watches before handling.
*Use fire rated gloves to protect your skin and make sure clothing is kept well away from any kiln opening or hot kiln surface.
*Do not use the wheel other than for throwing clay.
*Never insert metal instruments or place any part of your body into the kiln while it is firing.
*Do not insert hands or objects into openings or moving parts.
*Do not place combustibles in your kiln, such as: paper (except specific shelf liner fiber-paper used for glass applications), cardboard, wood, plastic, etc.
*Stop operation of the wheel if you smell or see smoke or hear unusual noises.
*Items that may be damp (i.e. greenware, kiln shelves) have the potential to crack or explode inside the kiln when the moisture trapped inside them turns to vapor when heated.
*Touching switches or plugs with wet hands may result in electrical shock.
*Never allow your kiln to exceed the temperature rating listed on the serial plate.
*Do not pick up the wheel by the wheelhead. You may bend the shaft.
*For your safety, the protection of your kiln, and the protection of your ware inside the kiln, we recommend that you avoid unloading the kiln when it is above 125°F (52°C).

*Turn ON/OFF switch to OFF and unplug your wheel from the power source before cleaning or inspection.
*Vacuum floor and element grooves regularly. Carefully vacuum around thermocouple and elements. Leave KM kilns plugged in when you are vacuuming to ground any static charges that may occur at the nozzle tip of the vacuum. Try to keep the vacuum away from the touch pad area. Inspect Plug and Wall receptacle for any indication of excessive heat. Replace both plug and receptacle if necessary.
*Never hose down the wheel. Clean off the potter's wheel with a damp sponge or cloth.

*Drain your splash pan regularly to avoid a build up of excessive water and clay.
*Glaze drips on a properly kiln washed floor can easily be removed without damage to the surface below. Remember to remove all glaze drips before taking the kiln to porcelain/stoneware temperatures, where the glaze will over-fire and soak through the kiln wash.
*Detach the splash pan after each use and clean out thoroughly.
*Unplug your wheel from power source if you will not be using it for an extended period of time.
*If the power cord becomes damaged, please ask your Authorized Shimpo Dealer about a replacement. Do not attempt to repair the power cord by yourself.
