Volunteer Tasks

Regular tasks

Any day tasks:

• Give tours and info about the makerspace to new-comers.
• Answer phone calls and providing accurate info, writing down notes, refer to website
• Organize tools, materials, and untidy areas
• Sweep and Vacuum [Electronics Lab, Classroom, Woodshop, Metal Shop, Auto Bay, Warehouse]
• Clean tables, chairs, shelves, and anything that has dust/dirt on it.
• Use the Volunteer Log after doing something.
• Empty a full trash can and replace with an empty bag. Trash goes outside by the red chimney. New bags are near the bathroom.
• Every Sunday: Take all trash and recycling out to the curb.

Occasional Tasks:

• Update whiteboard calendars. Done at the beginning of the month.
• Winter outdoor cleaning: shoveling, ice-breaking, salting.
• Spring/Summer outdoor cleaning: gardening, weed-whacking, mowing.
• Sweep and mop the floor in one of the shops. Best time to do it is a quiet day.
• Brush and vacuum the walls in the woodshop.

Skilled Tasks:

• Social media posts about makerspace events, member features, project photos.
• Repair equipment. Please consult the manager or shop manager before doing.
• Help with a construction/deconstruction project.
• Manage and organize a shop improvement project.

Special Tasks

This is our ever growing list of tasks that we need help with. Tasks range from simple things that anyone can help with to skilled work that we need done.

12/14/2018	Mount "Entrance on Morning St" sign to the front parking lot sign	3	1 hour or less	Should be easy to screw into some existing wood blocks just below the sign. May require straightening out the sign.
12/14/2018	Paint wood shop wall (side with metal shop door)	3	4 hours	Should be a scheduled volunteer session. We have still paint and supplies from an initial painting effort.
12/14/2018	Hang welding curtains on Machine Shop side of Metal Shop	5	3 hours	We have welding curtains to serve as a divider between the machining area and the welding/grinding space. We need a bracket or curtain hanger constructed to hang these on. Metal working skills needed for this project.
12/14/2018	Clean garage doors in Classroom, Auto Bay, and Electronics Lab	3	3 hours	Clean both sides with water and detergent to remove oils and grease.
12/14/2018	Draft an information leaflet about the Makerspace	4	3 hours or more	A good informational pamphlet for use at public events and drop-in/tours. There is a general guideline for what we would like to see. Please contact jgunn@portcitymakerspace.com if interested.
