A Safety Checkout is a process by which members get approved to use a power tool or other piece of equipment. This is an option for those who are experienced with the use of power tools to get approval to use them. If there is a tool that a new member does not know how to use, they are required to take a class or receive training from another member before using the tool.

Trying to figure out on your own how to use a dangerous power tool or sensitive piece of equipment is not allowed and could cause personal injury or damage to the equipment. The risks with each tool are not always obvious, and you don't know the risks that you don't know.
